About Me

Welcome to my blog - my ramblings about trying to find healthy, affordable gluten free food in St. John's, NL.
Despite being gluten free, I love to try new products and am always interested to hear about new places to eat.
I try to help the environment and purchase organic products where possible.

Enjoy :)

Bakery on Main: Products Review - Oatmeal and Granola Bars

Two new products I've been able to try in the last few weeks are made by a company called Bakery on Main. I picked up a box of the Maple Multrigrain Muffin flavour instant oatmeal while I was in Florida and found 3 varieties of their granola bars at Dominion on Blackmarsh Road over the weekend.

The instant oatmeal is made with uncontaminated oats and tolerance to oats may vary among gluten free goers. If you can tolerate it - recommendations are for 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of dried oats for adults. Click here for the article from Health Canada.

The maple flavour is very tasty, has the same consistency as a normal instant oatmeal package and is great if you are travelling or need a quick snack. The box of six packets was $4.99 when I purchased them.

I also tried the Peanut Butter Chocolate granola bars. There were 5 in a box for $4.99 - typical price for gluten free bars.

The bar itself had lots of chocolate chips, rice crisps and was full of flavour, however, it was hard as a rock. I actually thought I might crack a tooth. That being said, I did eat the whole thing and it was quite good. I think I'll leave them in the sun or microwave the next one for a couple seconds to reduce the extreme crispiness factor!

All in all - a good company to watch out for new products!
