Organic and Gluten Free - those are two terms that are often hard to find together! However, I'm moving towards more organic foods as they are not sprayed with pesticides and are non-GMO - both of which are very important to me!
That being said, there is a "Dirty Dozen" list that basically tests which fruits and vegetables are best to buy organic due to higher levels of pesticides. Others are "fine" to buy regular - however organic farming practices are often more sustainable and more environmentally friendly. But, seeing how we are taking baby steps here - the following fruits and vegetables are ones that I will trying to purchase organic if possible:
1. Strawberries
2. Grapes
3. Apples
4. Peaches
5. Blueberries & Blackberries
6. Celery
7. Lettuce
This is my first step towards organic and non-GMO foods.
Also as part of my initiative - I've signed up with Seed to Spoon Cooperative for the 2012 season. This means every week for 15 weeks I'll get a veggie basket with local, organic produce! I'm excited! Stay tuned for some awesome gluten free organic recipes and ideas! As well as new organic and gluten free products I will be testing!
