In my quest for new gluten free breads that are also organic and non-gmo, I found Silver Hills Mack's Flax bread (make sure the bag says gluten free as there is a non-gluten free version as well).
The bread has sorghum flour, chia seeds and flax (complete listing here). It packs a whopping 6 grams of fibre per SLICE and only 90 calories! It has a comparable amount of vitamins and minerals to the new Kinnikinnick breads so it's keeping up with the new standard of gluten free products in my opinion.
Loaves come frozen (as per most GF products in the store) and costs $4.99 - a very reasonable price.
I defrosted a piece on the counter to eat sans toaster - the real test of how good a GF bread is. I've got to say - it tasted exactly like a gluten filled multi-grain bread. It was quite odd as I haven't tasted that sort of taste in years. I did double check the bag after I had one bite just to be sure!
The texture wasn't bad - it wasn't quite as chewy as the new Kinnikinnick or Udi products, but it didn't fall apart or crumble by any means. If you toast it - I am sure it will be even more delicious!
This will be a definite repurchase for me - I loved the taste and the high fibre (hard to find in GF breads) would lead me to give it a 4.5 star rating!
PS. The bread is non-GMO, organic, vegan, dairy free, and no artificial preservatives :)
