About Me

Welcome to my blog - my ramblings about trying to find healthy, affordable gluten free food in St. John's, NL.
Despite being gluten free, I love to try new products and am always interested to hear about new places to eat.
I try to help the environment and purchase organic products where possible.

Enjoy :)

Home made gluten free salad dressing

I eat a lot of salads - especially during the summer when I was part of the CSA weekly food basket. What really makes a salad - is the dressing. While most dressings are gluten free, they also have weird ingredients like yellow 5, sodium benozate, etc. The solution? A home made version! You can control what goes in there, and can make as much or as little as you wish.

My two favorites are Balsamic and Honey Mustard. They are super easy to make:

Balsamic Dressing:

3 parts olive oil
1 part balsamic vinegar
1 part mustard
Salt and Pepper to taste

Shake well and store for 2 weeks

Honey Mustard Dressing:

1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup mustard
1/4 cup honey
2 cloves of garlic

Shake well and store for 2 weeks

Easy and yummy!

  1. I always buy "Renees Gourmet" (in the refrigerated/produce section, usually close to the bagged lettuce, etc) They have no colors or funky preservatives.I REALLY like their Balsamic..thats my fav, thus far. The Tangerine and Lime is my second fav (Nice change..different than anything Ive ever found before) I also tried the Spring Herb Italian but Im not a huge fan of that one. ... I always lean toward the Balsamic/ Honey Mustard options myself so you might want to try them if you havent yet..
