I've been meaning to try this place since they opened, and now having two Groupons, I figured it was time to test it out. Seeing how I was supposed to be in Florida today, but due to fog, am still in fog land, I figured it would be a day brightener. Maybe I expected too much, or it's just not my thing, but I was left unimpressed.
The Groupon I used was for 2 wraps (or 4 rice paper wraps), 2 sides and 2 drinks. I went in and checked out the menu board - while it was a little confusing, I managed to find the gluten free option. The rice wraps had names, but I had to ask for a description - I finally decided on the "Happy" and "Falafel" - the falafel had beans, nuts and some spices. The Happy one had sun dried tomato as the main component.
I am sure I've had rice paper before but maybe I didn't. Anyway - the wraps were premade in a container and I did do take away, but I am not sure if they were supposed to be warmed or cooked? Anyway, the texture of the rice wrapper was gooey and STICKY. I was not a fan. The inside stuffing was ok - but I found the 2 big string beans a little distracting from the other crunchy mixture.
The sweet potato fries were put on the panini grill which took 10 minutes. While I wasn't in a hurry, I can see this being a bottle neck with more than 2 people ordering......The fries themselves were ok - it was sprinkled with lemon chili salt which was ok - but I am not a huge lemon spice fan. Then came the weird part - after asking 2 times about things being gluten free, the lady asks 'How gluten free are you?' Really? I just asked twice...Anyway - I asked if there was gluten in the mayo and she said there was vinegar. I asked if it was malt vinegar - no - just regular. At this point I was confused...anyway - the mayo tasted ok - and I didn't seem to have any ill effects. I just thought it odd......
As my second side I ordered the salad. It was lettuce, some apple, tomato and a home made dressing. Again, it was alright, but had a bit of a thai taste.
Overall, it was just meh - I will go back and use my other groupon and try the quesadillas. I think I was expecting hummus like you get at the grocery store - and I know they have a special one for the day, but maybe you couldn't get it with the rice paper? When I asked about the special she said they didn't have one. Anyone else try here???
I was not a fan. I too felt like the establishment was set up quite awkwardly, the prices high for what you get, and nothing (flavor wise) really seemed to mesh together. I would not consider myself to be a "picky" eater OR one to shy away from new or different flavor combinations, textures, etc but some things just mesh and some things just dont. And, overall, I also left feeling "meh" about my whole meal... They seem very nice and eager to answer questions but I feel the place could use some attention to minor (but overall, important) details.
