About Me

Welcome to my blog - my ramblings about trying to find healthy, affordable gluten free food in St. John's, NL.
Despite being gluten free, I love to try new products and am always interested to hear about new places to eat.
I try to help the environment and purchase organic products where possible.

Enjoy :)

Amy's Gluten Free Frozen Entrées / Frozen Dinners - Review

I really love Amy's products, and even after just a week in the US, I'm going to miss them when I get back to Canada.

Two frozen entrees I tried while I was in Florida included Amy's Enchilada with Spanish Rice and Beans, and Cheese Enchilada. From what I can tell, these products are listed as being available in Canada, however, I'm not sure if we can get them in NL (I have asked Real Food Market to see if they can get more Amy's products) or how much they cost. When I purchased them at Target, they were $3.25-$3.50.
Black Bean Enchilada Whole Meal/Fait De Riz Espagnol Et Fèves Enchilada
The Enchilada with Spanish Rice and Beans was awesome - it is also dairy free. The food was tasty, cooked well in the microwave, and had 9 grams of fibre :) It has 31% of your daily sodium intake, but for someone who eats very little salt, I wasn't too concerned.  As usual, it was clearly listed as having no GMOs. How can you beat a tasty, non-GMO, gluten free ready to eat meal???

Cheese Enchilada/Enchilada Au FromageThe Enchilada with Cheese I shared with my very picky significant other and he really liked it. In fact, after he was finished, he said again it was really tasty. Need I say more? It was a cheesy, yummy, awesome enchilada that was ready in 4 minutes! The package has 2 enchiladas, each having 18% of your sodium intake - if you have sodium restrictions, and 3 grams of fibre.

MMM Amy's! I hope we can get these in NL and not cost a fortune!

  1. You can't get those particular meals here but at Dominion in Corner Brook there is a (limited) selection of Amy's gluten free dinners.

    1. Sobeys off Elizabeth carries the Enchilada with beans and rice now... I (reluctantly) paid about $6.50. But since there are ZERO good Mexican food choices here, I decided to suck it up for one day when Im feeling highly deprived.

  2. Oh ok - thanks for the heads up! I might splurge some time as well - I really love these :)
